Nancy Stevens – A Teacher, Parent, and Community Volunteer

A 20-year resident of southwest Fort Worth, Nancy Stevens has long been active in education and children’s issues. A high school English teacher with Fort Worth ISD and a former college instructor, she understands the real issues of education in Texas.

She has worked in the corporate, not-for-profit and public sectors, as well as operating a small editorial business, so she understand the different concerns of each segment of the Texas economy. Her past employers include American Airlines, the Amon Carter Museum, and TCU. She holds bachelors and masters degrees in English from Indiana University and is certified to teach English and ESL.

Her volunteer experience includes a decade as a Girl Scout leader and as a Sunday School teacher. She has served on the boards of the Paschal High Band Boosters, the Westcliff Elementary PTA, and was a co-organizer of Fort Worth Music Advocates, a parents’ group that began working in 1998 to restore funding for arts education in the Fort Worth ISD. She is a past president of the Tarrant County Democratic Women’s Club and has chaired the scholarship committee of the Tarrant County Democratic Woman’s Club. She is a state board member of Texans for Gun Safety.

Her husband, Ken Stevens, teaches history at TCU. They are parents of James (age 26) and Sally (age 22) and have two young granddaughters.
